I’ve never talked to anyone about this. I’m used to handling things on my own. Does going to therapy mean I’m weak?
It’s incredibly brave to reach out for help. Far from being a sign of weakness, asking for support shows strength and self-awareness. You don’t have to carry the burden alone, and therapy provides a safe space to explore what you’re going through. Together, we’ll work to identify your inner strengths and use them to help you feel more in control of your life.
What’s the difference between talking to you and talking to a close friend or family member?
Friends and family can offer support, but therapy is different because it provides a professional space that’s completely focused on your healing. In our work together, I bring years of training and experience to help you see things from new perspectives, learn coping tools, and work through emotions in a way that is free from judgment or expectations. Another important difference is confidentiality—you can talk openly without worrying about others knowing your personal struggles. Sometimes, confiding in friends or family about painful issues can complicate those relationships, but in therapy, you have a neutral, safe place to process everything.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be helpful for some people, but it’s not a complete solution on its own. Therapy helps address the root causes of what you’re feeling and teaches you tools to manage those emotions in the long term. Sometimes medication and therapy work together to support your healing, but therapy helps you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and your experiences, offering lasting relief beyond what medication alone can provide.
How does therapy work? What will I need to do in sessions?
Therapy is tailored to your unique needs, so it can look different for each person. During sessions, we’ll work together to explore what’s bringing you to therapy, the challenges you’re facing, and what you hope to achieve. You don’t need to prepare or have all the answers—we’ll figure it out together. What matters most is that you show up willing to talk and explore what’s going on inside.
How long will therapy take?
It’s hard to say exactly how long therapy will take because everyone’s journey is different. The time it takes depends on your specific challenges, how ready you are to engage in the process, and the goals you want to accomplish. We’ll move at your pace, and I’ll be there to support you throughout the journey.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
I’m really glad to hear you’re committed to making the most of this experience! The best thing you can do is come with an open mind and a willingness to actively participate. Therapy is a partnership, and your engagement and dedication will make all the difference in how much you gain from the process. Together, we’ll work toward your goals, one step at a time.
